Pructon Delivers Key Infrastructure Upgrades at Northern Oil’s Yarwun Facility

Pructon is pleased to announce the completion of the Tank Farm 4 Expansion Project at Northern Oil’s Yarwun facility in Queensland, marking a significant milestone in enhancing operational capacity and efficiency. The project involved the design, fabrication, and installation of essential equipment and infrastructure to support the growth of the facility. As part of the expansion, two new tanks were installed to increase the storage capacity and optimise the overall performance of the plant.

Some key achievements of the project include:

  • Installation of two new 220kL tanks with custom cladding, ensuring structural integrity and precision placement.
  • Fabrication and installation of over 413 metres of carbon steel pipe, alongside 162 metres of stainless steel pipe.
  • Fabrication and installation of 486 butt welds on DN100 carbon pipe to meet industry standards.
  • Construction of a new loading bay to increase the capacity for both loading and unloading, supporting the expansion of operations at the site.
  • Design and installation of a pump pit area with custom penetration points, optimising operational efficiency and meeting client specifications.
  • Installation of safety shower systems, including trenching, pipework, and insulation, to enhance safety for workers onsite.
  • The extension of the MCC platform to accommodate additional infrastructure, including a new MCC and relocated stairs for improved accessibility.

A major innovation in this project was the utilisation of 3D scanning and modelling technology to precisely pinpoint each of the 48 anchor points for the new tanks with an accuracy of 1-2mm. Partnering with JFP Urban Consultants, Pructon implemented this technology for the first time, significantly improving the accuracy of placements while reducing installation time and costs. This precision ensured seamless integration with existing infrastructure, minimising the need for adjustments and rework.

With the addition of new tanks and expanded load bay capacity, the Yarwun facility can now accommodate an additional 710kL of storage, enhancing its operational capacity and supporting Northern Oil's long-term goals for growth and sustainability. The project not only strengthens Northern Oil’s operational capabilities but also highlights Pructon’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions that drive industry advancements.
