Overview

Pructon was engaged by Northern Oil Refinery (NOR) to design and construct four blending tanks with a 270,000-litre capacity each. This project supports NOR's mission to recycle waste lube oil into base lube oil, enhancing environmental sustainability.

Scope of Work

  • Design and Certification: Developed detailed designs and secured necessary certifications for the tanks to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Fabrication: Constructed four tanks, each standing 20 meters high and 5 meters in diameter, at the Pructon Gladstone workshop, ensuring high-quality manufacturing processes.
  • Surface Treatment and Cladding: Completed surface treatment of the tanks to protect against environmental factors, followed by cladding for additional durability.
  • Transport: Coordinated the transport of the tanks under escort to the Northern Oil site, ensuring safe handling during the journey.
  • Installation: Conducted the installation of the tanks, including the fabrication and installation of associated piping, valves, and pumps.
  • Standing and Commissioning: Properly positioned the tanks on their footings, followed by hydrostatic testing and commissioning of the tanks and associated pipework to ensure operational readiness.

Outcomes & Benefits

  • Customised Design: The tank designs were tailored to meet the specific requirements of Northern Oil, ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Quality Assurance: Pructon maintained stringent quality control standards for welding and surface treatment, meeting all required specifications.
  • Increased Capacity: The addition of the four tanks significantly increased the refinery’s capacity to store oil, enhancing its ability to recycle black oil into biodiesel. This process not only mitigates disposal costs for carcinogenic waste but also contributes to sustainable energy solutions.
