Overview

Pructon was engaged to construct the necessary foundations for a new generator unit at Katherine Power Station. This project involved building a reinforced transformer slab with an explosion wall and large footings across the plant. Each footing included an integrated earthing grid, electrical conduits, and hold-down bolts, ensuring seamless connectivity to the existing electrical system. To enhance durability, a blinding layer was applied beneath each structure.

Scope of Work

  • Detailed Excavation: Conducted precision excavation for footings and the earthing grid.
  • Site Surveying: Surveyed the site to confirm accurate placement of footings and foundations.
  • Formwork Design: Designed and installed formwork for the explosion barrier wall surrounding the transformer.
  • Steel Reinforcement and Earthing Grid Welding: Reinforced and welded steel, securely tying it into the earthing grid.
  • Installation of Electrical Conduits: Integrated electrical conduits into each footing to support future connections.
  • Concrete Pouring and Finishing: Completed concrete pouring and finishing for all footings and the transformer slab.

Outcomes and Benefits

  • Enhanced Structural Integrity and Safety: The reinforced foundations and explosion wall provide robust support and increased safety for the new generator.
  • Seamless Electrical Integration: The installed earthing grid and conduits enable secure and effective connection to the plant’s electrical network.
  • Efficient Project Execution: Meticulous planning and construction methods ensured efficient completion with minimal site disruption.
