Pructon Successfully Completes Construction of New Workshop Facility

Pructon is pleased to announce the successful completion of its first project in Western Australia – a 546m² mine maintenance workshop near Marble Bar in the Pilbara region. Beginning in December 2023, this project marks a significant milestone for Pructon, demonstrating our ability to deliver high-quality infrastructure in one of the most challenging environments in Australia.

The Pilbara’s extreme conditions posed several challenges during the build, including summer temperatures exceeding 48°C, severe thunderstorms, and constant dust from nearby active mining operations. Despite these obstacles, Pructon successfully overcame these environmental hurdles through strategic planning and the use of resilient construction techniques.

The newly completed workshop features a robust heavy portal frame structure, with Colourbond walls and roofing to provide durability and weather resistance. Insulation has been installed in both the roof and walls to further enhance protection against extreme temperatures in the robust Western Australia weather. Inside, the facility includes a mezzanine floor and whirly bird extractors for optimal ventilation, along with a dedicated cool room for the electrical maintenance team.

A standout feature of the workshop is its motorised wind-locked roller doors, which ensure secure access in demanding weather conditions. The facility is also equipped with a 5-tonne overhead gantry crane spanning 12 metres, facilitating efficient handling of heavy machinery and equipment.

Pructon’s scope of work extended from initial design and drafting through to steel fabrication and painting, which was completed at our Gladstone workshop in Queensland. The materials were then delivered to the site for assembly. On-site, our team expertly handled earthworks, trenching, and concrete footings before erecting the steelwork and installing the sheeting.

Additionally, the project included the installation and testing of key utilities such as electrical cabling, potable water piping, fire piping, compressed air piping, and drainage. Our integrated approach ensured that all components were completed efficiently and to the highest standard, despite the environmental challenges.

Pructon is proud to have delivered a facility that will support ongoing mining maintenance activities in the Pilbara and looks forward to further projects in the region. This achievement underscores our commitment to providing high-quality, resilient solutions for our clients in the mining, oil and gas, and water infrastructure sectors, even in the most challenging environments.
